A very Merry Christmas to all our swimmers and volunteers.  Also best wishes to our former coaches and swimmers who have been in keeping in touch with the club via the site.

We now have spaces for swimmers on Saturday and Sunday morning sessions (8am - 9am).  There is plenty of time at these sessions to work on developing good technique so we'd encourage those swimmers who only swim on a Monday night in the main pool to consider signing up for one or both sessions.  Register your interest at the main desk in January.

The new fees for 2006 have been announced.  Click here for full details.  These continue to be excellent value for money, particularly when joining more sessions.  No one involved with the swimming club is paid, we are all volunteers, and the fees go towards pool hire, training of volunteers and equipment.

Just to confirm swimming sessions over the Christmas period.  We won't have training on the 24th, 25th, 26th, 31st December, 1st & 2nd January.  We will have training on the 21st, 28th December, 4th, 7th, 8th and 9th January.

Well done to all of our swimmers who took part in the National Biathalon Championships held in Sheffield.  A total of 11 of our swimmers took part in the event and performed very well.  Lucy Smith achieved 2nd place, James Wathern 3rd, and the Boys 11-12 year team (James Wathern, Oliver Carrington, Piers Luxton) took 3rd place.  Some photos will be on the site shortly.  Full results are available at www.mpagb.org.uk

The successful Club Championship Award evening was held on Friday.  Many thanks to all those who worked so hard to organise.  Special congratulations to Jack Woodward and Tamara Lukasheh who received the most improved swimmer awards this year.

Solid performance from our swimmers at the Notts & District Gala held on Saturday in Mansfield.  The team achieved 11 first places, 11 Personal Bests and earned 4th place.  Well done to all swimmers and helpers.  Click here for results.

All members of the club are invited to come along to the 70th Anniversary Awards evening on the 25th November.  Tickets are available on club nights and are selling fast.  All swimmers who competed at the Club Champs will receive a commemorative momento on the night.

A young squad put up a valiant performance at Arnold in the Minor League gala last Saturday.  Some excellent swims from a small, eager and well behaved team produced 10 personal bests.  Click here for the results.

The first full Monday programme of the Club Championships produced some great racing.  The last events take place on Monday 7th November with warm up at 6.30.  Make sure you buy your tickets for the 70th Anniversary Awards evening.

Well done to all the Newark swimmers who took part in the recent Biathalon at Southwell.  A really good and fun day ensured that 16 of our swimmers qualified for the National Finals to be held in November.  Also well done to Lucy Smith who achieved 9th Place in the recent World Biathle in Monaco (Run, Swim, Run).

Our team competed at the Whiting Trophy gala on Saturday 1st October at Mansfield.  Team performed well against some very strong teams, and achieved 9 personal bests.  Click here for full results.

Some minor adjustments to the fixture list for the coming months.  We are now swimming in an inter club gala on Saturday 29th October, therefore the Club Championship gala planned for that night has been moved to Monday 7th November.

Top result at the Sports Centre League gala held at Newark on the 17th September, with our team gaining 1st place, and even better a total of 19 personal bests achieved.  Well done to swimmers and thank you to all helpers.  Click here for the results.

The Simeon Hansard on Saturday 10th September again proved a great success with Louth A winning the gala and Newark coming 3rd.  Some strong swims from many Newark swimmers (both the young and less young!).  Click here for the Newark results.  If you'd like to see the whole gala results then click here.

Winners of the latest 100 club draw for August were 1st prize Mrs Key, 2nd Mrs Batterham and 3rd Mr Betts.  Winners for September were 1st Mrs Ballard, 2nd D Thompson, 3rd J Cawthorne.  At the Monday raffle the winners were 1st Mrs Palmer, 2nd Mrs Picker, 3rd Mrs Luxton.

Congratulations to Lucy Smith who came third in her age group at the recent National Biathle Championship (500m run, 100m swim, 500m run).  This excellent performance means Lucy will now take part in the World Championships in Monaco on 18th September as part of the GB team.

We are holding a sponsored swim on the Monday 19th September.  The aim is for our swimmers to swim as far as they can in 10 or 15 minutes.  Please make sure that you pick up a sponsorship form next time you are at the club.

Great efforts by the swimmers in the National Open Water Swim on Saturday.  In the Boys 13/14 years 1500m race William Betts was 6th (24:51:50), Jamie Scott was 8th (25:24:20), Jacob Morley was 13th (30:06:08, actually Calverton SC but swam with us on the day!).  

In the Girls 13/14 race Alice Thomas was 22nd (31:08:10), whilst in the 15/16 age group Sally Anne Morrison was 22nd in 30:13:00 for 1750m and in the 17/24 category, Ashleigh Scott came 10th in 42:52:90 for 2000m.

Conditions were cold, very windy and the support group (the parents) walked miles!  Nottinghamshire came 6th in the team event with our swimmers contributing to this success.

Good luck to Alice Thomas, Ashleigh Scott, Sally Anne Morrison, Jamie Scott and William Betts who are taking part in the National Open Water swim at Holme Pierrepoint, Nottingham on the 27th August.  Distances they will be swimming range from 1500m to 2000m.

Why not combine your swimming with running and enter the East Midlands Region Biathlon championships.   This Biathalon, organised by the Modern Pentathalon Association, is taking place at Southwell 9th October.  Entry forms are available from the front desk.  It will be a fun and friendly event with quite a few Newark swimmers taking part.

At the Midland Distict ASA Age Groups held recently in Coventry we were represented by James Wathen and Jamie Scott.  James took 21st place in the 200m Backstroke (2:45:27) and Jamie took 22nd in the 1500 Freestyle (20:58:69) and 34th in the 200m Freestyle (2:29:07).

Open water results now from Midland District ASA championships held at Bosworth Water, Leicester on the 17th July.  In the 12-16 age group Jamie Scott took 7th (22:43:70) and William Betts a fraction behind in 8th (22:43:88) in the 1500m race.  Great effort from both of them.

Congratulations to Louise Hansard who has again been excelling at Open Water events.  She took 4th place at Wykeham Lakes, Scarborough (2 miles Freestyle, 15 degree water temp).  At the Champion of Champions held in Cotswolds on 12th June she came 8th.  This is a real event for the strong, each swimmer swims in three races of 5 miles, 3 miles, 1 mile on the same day!  (water 18 degrees).  Fantastic effort.

Well done to our members who competed at the National Triathalon competition organised by the Modern Pentathalon Association.  Taking part in Swimming, Running and Shooting, Oliver Carrington, Lucy Smith, Anne Marie Betts and Piers Luxton performed really well. Congratulations to Masters swimmers Chris Gillard, Louise Hansard, Steven Hansard who competed at the Midland & District Open Masters Championship.  A total of 11 top 10 finishes achieved by these three, including 1st in the 200m Fly for Chris and three 3rd places for Louise.
