Our Club Championship is taking place in October/November.  The closing date for entries is 26th September.  We'd encourage all of our main pool swimmers to enter as the Club Championship is a great place to set a personal best time.

Please could all swimers ensure that they arrive on time for their training sessions.  It is vital that you are on poolside promptly to ensure that you warm up correctly, avoid injury and don't disrupt other swimmers.

Great news from the Midland District ASA Open Water Swim at Bosworth Lake, Leicestershire where on the 9th July, Louise Hansard achieved 1st place in the Womans 3K swim in the 35-39 age group in a time of 52:54:10.

Well done to Lucy Smith who represented Great Britain in the 1st European Biathle Championships on 9th July in Santander, Spain.  The event comprised a continuous 1km run on asphalt, a 200m swim in the sea and a further 1km run.  Also still only 14, Lucy was in the Girls Youth B (15/16 old) age group, but still comfortably claimed 1st place and the gold medal with solid running and a commanding swim.  Lucy would like to thank the Hansard Trust, Newark & Sherwood District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council for their continued support.

A number of our swimmers took part in the Midland District Age Group Championships held in early June in Coventy.  In the Boys 100m Freestyle, James Wathen swam 1:03:03 (PB) and came 17th in the 13 years age group, Charlotte Batterham came 18th in the 200m Freestyle (2:26:65), and Jamie Scott was 34th in the 200m Freestyle in a time of 2:22:67 (PB).

At the British Swimming Junior International 3k open water event, held in Royal Albert Dock, London on 24/25 June, Jamie Scott achieved a time of 45:46.  This placed Jamie 16th, an excellent performance in the 13-17 age group.  The water was filthy, deep, only 18 degrees and the course was challenging.  Click for a picture of Jamie at the event.

At the North of England triathlon championships held at Stalybridge on Sunday, Oliver Carrington took gold in his age group.  Libby Carrington, competing in her first triathlon, came second.  Well done to both of them.

After the recent Nova Centurian development squad trials, six of our swimmers gained entry this time.  Well done to Chloe, Laura, Brittany, Libby, Lewis and Simon. This brings our total up to 9 swimmers in the development squad, as well as 5 swimmers in other squads - a great achievement for a club of our size.  Those who missed out this time should have a chance to trial later in the year.

At the Ivan Percival Open Water meet, held in The Albert Docks Liverpool on Saturday 27th, Jamie Scott came 1st in the 2mile Junior Freestyle race.  An excellent time of 48mins 12 secs despite very cold conditions and the attention of hundreds of Jelly fish!

Three of our swimmers competed in the Annual Open Water Championships at Colwick Park in Nottingham. William Betts and Jamie Scott took part in the 2k Junior Mens event and finished 3rd and 4th respectively.  Louise Hansard representing our Masters section finished 7th in the 4k Senior Ladies event.  Excellent results despite rain and 15 degree water temperature.  All were duly inspired by Julie Bradshaw from Loughborough (holder of Cross Channel Butterfly record) who won the 4k Senior Ladies fly event.

We again had a large team at the British National Biathlon championships in Manchester on Saturday who performed really well.  Loads of great performances including the Youth E girls team of Amy Scott, Libby Carrington and Evie Luxton gaining 2nd place overall, Lucy Smith earning 4th place in the Youth B, and William Betts gaining 8th place in the Youth C category.  Click here to link to the MPAGB results page.

Great performances from Lucy Smith and Alice Thomas at the Midland Youth Championships.  Lucy achieved a top 10 place in the 50m freestyle and also three other top 20 finishes.  She has also qualified for Nationals in the 50m Freestyle.  Alice was 11th in the 200m breastroke and 6th in the final of the 100m breaststroke.  Click here for more info.

With the Commonwealth Games swimming on the TV it's a good time to see how the experts swim.  Particular points you may have seen over the first few days have been the streamlining off starts & turns, the amount and speed of kick underwater at turns, the smoothness of the very best swimmers, strong kick on front crawl throughout even on distance races and those with good turns gaining advantage on other swimmers.

Please can all swimmers make sure they arrive in good time for each training session.  The warm up is an essential part of each session, and its important to complete it all.  If you arrive late you risk not warming up your body properly and also disrupt other swimmers in your lane.

Congratulations to John Palmer and Roger Luxton on successfully passing their Level 2 Swimming Teachers course.  They are now fully qualified swimming teachers. The club now has a total of five Level 2 teachers as well as seven Level 1 teachers.

The closing date for entries to the East Midlands Modern Biathlon (to be held on 19th March) is the 7th March.  If you were thinking of entering then make sure that you get your forms in.  It is a really enjoyable event.

We had a tough challenge at the Spring Competition Gala at Hucknall last night.  With several swimmers unavailable and against some very strong squads it was always going to be difficult.  However our swimmers responded magnificantly to produce some sterling performances including 15 personal bests.  Well done to all swimmers especially our less experienced gala competitors.  Click here to see the results.

The Spring Competition gala on the 25th February is at Hucknall, the coach leaves The Grove at 5.00pm for a 6.00pm warm up and a 6.30pm start.  We would encourage as many of you as possible to use the Coach.

Well done to our swimmers last night at a very strong Minor League Gala at Hucknall.  We came 5th against some strong teams.  Some really good performances particularly from those swimmers who haven't taken part in many gala.  Click here for results.

The gala on the 4th February is at Hucknall.  The coach will leave the Grove promptly at 5.00.  The warm up is at 6.00 for a 6.30 start.  We encourage as many of you as possible to use the coach.

The gala this coming Saturday 28th is at Bingham pool. There is no coach to the gala but we need to be at the pool for a 6.00 warm up and a 6.30 start.  Please do arrive in good time for the warm up so the team managers can check that everyone has arrived.

Just a reminder to all swimmers to make sure that you always bring a drink of water with you to your sessions. To maintain performance you need to keep drinking throughout the session so you don't get dehydrated.
