31/12/07	2007 has been a very successful year for the club, achieving great performances in inter club galas, as well as considerable individual success at County, Midland and National level. Great to see the club also being represented in Biathlons and Triathlons, as well as Open Water competitions, not forgetting our Masters. Let's look forward to continued success in 2008. A Happy New Year from all involved with the swimming club.

17/12/07	A very Happy Christmas to everyone at the Swim Club. Just a reminder that although tonight is the last Monday session until the 7th January, swimming continues on Saturday and Sunday without a break and is also on this Wednesday.
12/12/07	The results from the Notts & District Gala held on Saturday are now available. The team clocked up another excellent win, claiming 25 1st places and 6 new pbs. Well done to all swimmers. Click here for results.
09/12/07	Many thanks to all those who volunteered to help at the the Bag Packing at M&S on Saturday. This raised a total of over £500. A Special mention to Stacy Marriott for all her work in organising this and various other fundraising activities this year - it is much appreciated.

04/12/07	Bag packing takes place this Saturday at Marks & Spencer, Newark. We still need some volunteers for 12-1, and for 3-4 - please let Stacy know if you can help. Remember this is to raise funds for the club. All volunteers please remember to wear club kit/club colours.
03/12/07	As a club we have achieved Swim21. This is a recognition that the clubs teaching, training and administration meets the standards of the Amateur Swimming Association. It is a real achievement for a club of our size to achieve this award. Well done to everyone involved.
03/12/07	With Christmas fast approaching, we wanted to let you know about pool closures. There will be no swimming on Monday 24th Dec, Wednesday 26th Dec and Monday 31st Dec. All other sessions (including weekend sessions between Xmas & New Year) will continue as normal. On Monday 17th December we will be having a fun night.

25/11/07	We hosted a terrific gala last night, the last round of the Sports Centre league. Excellent swims throughout the team (18 pbs and 17 1st places) led to us claiming victory, and with it promotion. Another great night for the club. Click here for results.

20/11/07	Don't forget that the Club Championship Presentation Evening is on Sunday 6.30 - 11.30 at Bishop Alexander Primary School. Tickets are free, and it should be a good evening. See you all there.
20/11/07	We are going to do two timing sessions on Sunday mornings 8-9 am on Sunday 2nd and 9th December. Priority is to help swimmers achieve county times. The session will operate as normal, albeit with timings done in part of the session. Click here for more details.
16/11/07	Great news from the Newark & Sherwood Sports Awards. Alice Thomas was named as a finalist in the Junior Sportsperson of the year, and the Club won the Club of the year category. Two fantastic achievements, and the club now go forward to the Nottinghamshire Sports Awards in January. Everyone who swims, helps, coaches or supports the swim club should feel very proud.

11/11/07	Please remember to bring along a water bottle to training sessions. It is very important to keep hydrated throughout training.
04/11/07	The final results from the Club Championships are available. Thanks to all swimmer, parents and volunteers for your contribution. There were quite a few disqualifications in the races, but lease don't be too disappointed if this happened to you - most of our top swimmers havce been DQ'd at some stage. If you aren't sure about why you may have been DQ'd then please ask your teacher/coach to have a look at your stroke/turn. The reason for the DQ is shown in the attached results. 24/10/07	This years Annual General Meeting is being held on Thursday 22nd November. If anyone is interested in joining the committee then please have a word with the front desk on a Monday, or speak to a member of the current committee.
23/10/07	Just a reminder that due to the Club Championships there is no normal Sunday training this Sunday 28th. Also on the Monday evening, 29th, we also have racing so all swimmers competing are requested to arrive for a 6.30 warm up and 7.00 start. There will be no swimming in the small pool on Monday.

30/09/07	It is fantastic to see so many entries for the Club Championships this year. There should be some fantastic racing. Just to let you know that the date for the presentation evening has had to be changed and will now be Sunday 25th November.
29/09/07	The Newark Swimming Club Biathlon was another great success with over 30 competitors taking part in the Swim and Run. Some great performances in both the pool and the track. Many thanks to The Betts Family for organising, and to John Blow School for providing the run venue.
23/09/07	The results from the Hansard Gala are now available. This was a great gala including two teams from the club. The gala was won by Sherwood, with our Orange team coming 2nd. Well done to all swimmers and helpers. Click here for results. We also recognised the superb efforts of retiring Tony Hansard, who has provided 34 years of voluntary service to the club. 15/09/07	The date for the Newark Swimming Club Biathlon is fast approaching. Please make sure you get your entries in as soon as possible. This is a fun event and a good opportunity to get a new swimming pb as well as take part in a run.

14/09/07	The Hansard Gala is being swum on Saturday, with a 6.00 warm up for a 6.30 start. The gala is swum each year in memory of Simeon Hansard who was a great swimmer for Newark and was tragically killed whilst training for a triathlon.
14/09/07	Thanks to all swimmers who took part so energetically in the distance challenge on Wednesday night. Set the challenge of swimming 3k, 2.7k or 2.5k in the 60 minutes the swimmers responded magnificantly. Great effort from all the lanes.
09/09/07	Just a reminder that the entry forms for our Biathlon on 23rd September have been sent out. We'd encourage all swimmers to take part, as judging by last year it will be a fun, friendly event. If you've mislaid your entry form then click here for a copy.
09/09/07	A very successful Sports Centre gala last night saw us claim 1st place overall. Excellent swims throughout the squad produced some battling displays as well as 15 1st places and 13 pbs. Thanks to all swimmers and helpers. Click here for the results.
09/09/07	On Saturday we did a 50m test set. This set is designed to test stamina. The results are available via the timings tab on the menu bar or by clicking here. This is a test set we have repeated three times now on Saturdays. Well done in particular to Simon, Ellis, Luke, Olivia and James M who have all improved performance by over 10% during this period.
04/09/07	Congratulation to Jamie Scott and Louise Hansard who took part in the National Age Group Competition at Holme Pierrepoint on 25th August. Louise came 1st in the 3k Masters event in a time of 1.00.57. Jamie came 2nd in his age group in the 1750m event (2nd overall) in a time of 25.53.85. Two fantastic open water swims.
04/09/07	The Sports Centre Gala this Saturday is at Sutton. The coach leaves The Grove at 5.00, and the warm up is at 6.00 for a 6.30 start.
03/09/07	We had two swimmers taking part in the ASA National Swim Championships at Sheffield. Alice Thomas competed in the 100m Breaststroke and achieved 5th in her group, 30th overall, in a time of 1.15.84. Lucy Smith swam in the 50m Freestyle and was placed 115th in a time of 28.98. Fantastic swims by both of them.

23/08/07	Rembember that The Grove is not available on a Bank Holiday, so there will be no swimming on Monday evening. All the other sessions continue as normal this weekend.

29/07/07	An early note about our club Biathlon (swimming & running). This is going to take place on Sunday 23rd September. Look out for entry forms in the next few weeks. This ran for the 1st time last year, was hugely successful and we want even more entries this year.
29/07/07	Just to let you know that we have passed the Regional Board for our Swim21 award. This is an award of how professionally a club operates against strict criteria. Currently only some 330 clubs have Swim21 status out of over 1800 clubs in the UK. We now await final confirmation from a National level. Great effort from Pauline, Kath, Julie and all who helped put together our submission (which ran to 3 thick folders).

24/07/07	Although it is now the Summer Holidays, just a reminder that swimming continues as normal. Many clubs are forced to cancel sessions during the holidays, but due to the assistance of all of our volunteers we are able to maintain training throughout the summer. Many thanks to all our volunteers for their continued assistance.
24/07/07	Chloe, Bradley, Jamie and John all took part in the Midland Open Water Championships on Sunday. All achieved top 10 finishes in distances ranging from 1.5km to 3km, including a 1st for Jamie and 2nd for John. Great efforts from Chloe and Brad on their first Open Water swims. 22/07/07	This morning we did some timed 50s including stroke counts. The aim is to try to avoid the stroke count soaring upwards as the time reduces. Click here to view the set.

16/05/07	NOTTINGHAM GREYHOUND RACING - 22nd June 2007. We have organised a trip to the Greyhound racing on Friday 22nd June. A bus will be provided leaving Newark at approximately 6.00pm, all profits made will go to the club! Admission is £5 each with the bus costing £5 each. Bar meals can be purchased at the stadium. 15/04/07	The results have now been updated to include details of Disqualifications (DQs). In early galas it is natural to have a few disqualification, so please don't get disheartened if it has happened to you. Most of the top swimmers will have been DQ'd at some point. The reason for the DQ will be shown when you run your cursor over the DQ cell. The time the swimmer achieved is also now added. Click here for the updated results.

02/04/07	Just a reminder that swimming will not be taking place at The Grove on Easter Sunday or Bank Holiday Monday. The small pool will also not be open on the 16th April as we are holding our Age Group Champs that night. Also if you haven't entered the Age Group Champ then please don't turn up for swimming on the 16th April as you won't be able to swim. Sessions in May which will also not be running are Monday 7th and 28th (due to Bank Holiday) and Sunday 20th May (due to other events)
01/04/07	Great news from last nights Sports Centre gala with us taking 1st place overall. A truly excellent all round team performance saw us claim 11 first places and 18 personal bests. Click here for the results.
30/03/07	The bus for this Saturdays gala leaves The Grove at 5.45, with the warm up at Carlton Forum being at 6.45 for a 7.15 start.
26/03/07	Another good day for Newark Swimmers at the MPAGB Regional Biathlon. Some excellent runs and swims meant that all our entrants have qualified for the Nationals. Click here for full results.
25/03/07	The final gala of the County Championships was on Saturday. Some terrific IM swims including Alice Thomas winning the Final with a new pb. Overall we had 102 pbs set, 9 1st places, 70 top tens, 5 top ten age group places. Thirteen Midland times were also achieved by Simon, James, Charlotte, Jamie, Alice and Lucy, and two National times by Alice. Plus in the Relays the Girls 16 yrs team won 3rd in both the Medley and Free finals (well done Alice, Saskia, Lucy and Charlotte). 26/02/07	We again had a tough draw in the Spring Competition at Mansfield on Saturday. We came 5th overall, but achieved 15 personal bests and 1 first place. Click here for results.

19/02/07	Well done to Dawn Whitehead who set Long Course records in the 35-39 age group at the recent Rotherham Metro meet. Dawn swam the 50m backstroke in 37.25 and the 50m Butterfly in 37.78. Fantastic swimming.

09/02/07	The Nottinghamshire County Championships start on Saturday and run over several weekends. Twenty Two of our swimmers have qualified (a fantastic number for a club our size), and we wish them all the best of luck.
04/02/07	The latest round of the Minor Gala took place at Mansfield on Saturday. We were drawn against some top teams and came 5th, achieving 5 1sts and 18 personal bests. Thank you to all swimmer and helpers. Click here for results.

31/01/07	The gala this Saturday is at Mansfield with a 6.30 warm up for a 7.00 start. Please can you be at The Grove for 5.20 (we are hosting so need to be there early). Please can you make sure that you let John know whether you are on the bus.
29/01/07	Some really good individual swims were achieved on Saturday against some tough teams in the Spring Competition. A fantastic 21 personal bests were achieved, as well as 7 first places. Well done to all swimmers. Click here for the results.

22/01/07	We came 4th at the Minor League Gala at Worksop on Saturday. A total of 12 pbs achieved by a young team, although only 1 first place (u11s Girls Medley Relay team). Thanks to all swimmers, helpers and organisers. Click here for the results.
19/01/07	Congratulation to Roger Luxton who has successfully passed the theory exam for his Club Coach qualification. Having already passed his practical assessments this only (!) leaves his logbook to complete over the coming few months.

15/01/07	Over the past couple of years we have enjoyed considerable success at the Modern Pentathalon, Biathlon and Triathlon events (click for letter). You can click for an entry form and Information sheet for the Biathlon (swim & run) which is being held on Sunday 25th March at Southwell Leisure Centre. 14/01/07	The first gala of the New Year was on Saturday at Sutton and we came 3rd with 9 personal bests and 12 1st places. The results, together with split times, are available by clicking here.
10/01/07	The coach for Saturday is now going to leave at 5.00 (rather than at 5.15). Please can everybody try and be at the coach in good time. Can you also make sure you have let John/Giles know whether you are travelling on the coach.
09/01/07	Congratulations to Alice Thomas who gained National Qualifying times in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke at Ponds Forge this weekend. This is a fantastic achievement.

07/01/07	Very pleasing to see so many swimmers at the sessions this weekend. If you only swim on a Monday at the moment, then ask at the desk about signing up for extra sessions - it's the fastest way to improve.
