Newark Swimming Club

20/05/13	Lots of our swimmers also take part in other sports including bi-athalons . This year the East Midlands bi-athalon is on the 8th September at Bingham Leisure Centre and is a qualifier for the National Biathalon later in the year . We have had 2 national champions in past bi-athalons , Ruth Money and James Wathen . 20/05/13	There is a new list of Club Records as Olivia Mathias has broken the 100m fly records for Under 15,16 and 17's . Well done Olivia . So far this year there have been 21 records broken ! To view the list click here !

13/05/13	Some of our swimmers entered the Acorn Open meet at Hucknall last weekend . There were some great swims with a total of 19 pb's achieved . To view the results , click here .
06/05/13	There is no swimming Monday night due to the Grove being shut for the Bank Holiday.
05/05/13	The presentation for this years Age Group Champs is this coming Friday at Highfields school , London Road , Balderton . This event is open to ALL members of the club regardless of whether they swam at the Champs or not and feel free to bring along friends and grandparents if you wish . All swimmers who did compete will get a certificate and there are medals for the top 3 swimmers in all the events for all age groups as well as trophies for the overall winners in each age group . There will be a bar with drinks and snacks , a raffle and a fun disco which is always a huge hit with the swimmers . There is no charge for entry to the presentation and it is a great opportunity to celebrate the success of the swimmers at Newark SC . Doors open at 7pm and the disco will finish around 10.30 pm.
03/05/13	Good Luck to Ruth Money in this weekends Midland Youth Championships at Corby . Ruth is competing in the 200 Individual Medley and the 100m and 200m Freestyle . Good luck Ruth from all at the club .

26/04/13	IMPORTANT - TOMORROWS SPORTS CENTRE LEAGUE GALA Tomorrows gala at Sutton Lammas starts at 7pm and not at 6.30 pm as stated below. The warm up is at 6.30pm and the bus will be leaving the Grove at 5.30 pm . Good luck to the Squad , Swim fast and get lots of pb's!!!!

22/04/13	This coming Saturday sees Round 3 of the 2013 Sports Centre League at Sutton Lammas. The warm up is at 6pm and the gala starts at 6.30pm. There is a bus which will leave the Grove at 5pm . Please try to support the use of the bus if you can .
21/04/13	Some fine swimming at last nights round 1 of the Stage 3 round of galas at Worksop . There were 7 wins and 11 pb's achieved . Wins came from Ruth Money ,Olivia Mathias,Jake Geary the boys 12 and under relay teams and a 1st win for Newark for Rebekah Kirby . Well done to you all . 14/04/13	AGE GROUP SPRINT CHAMPS RESULTS The results of last nights Age Group Sprint Champs can be viewed and printed by clicking here . Please note that these are early results and are subject to change . The final points table should be published in the next day or two when everything has been checked thoroughly . Thank you to all the swimmers who entered the Champs , we hope you all enjoyed the experience of swimming in a competition pool and now know how open meets work . Also thank you to the spectators for supporting the event and finally , a big thank you to all the helpers (there were 30 in total ) without whom these events could not take place . 11/04/13	AGE GROUP CHAMPS THIS SATURDAY Appologies for the break down of the link to the start lists for saturdays gala . We are working to sort this out ASAP . Please arrive at the Meres for approximately 5.50 as we have been told we can enter the pool area at 6pm . The warm up will be for half an hour and we plan to start the gala around 6.40 ish . Please bring a spare towel , t shirt and a drink and report to the team managers on poolside so we know you are present at the pool . It is anticipated that the 9 events will be complete for around 8.15 so we should have time for the fun events afterwards so if you wish to swim in these , don't go home ,stay and enjoy the fun stuff !!!! Programmes for the nights events can be purchased on entry . Please support this event by bringing plenty of supporters as there will be plenty of room at the pool . 08/04/13	At Newark Swimming Club , we have always tried hard to , and have indeed achieved success with limited training time for our swimmers . We have now been offered an opportunity by the Grove to potentially double the amount of pool time we have access to and the committee would like the membership to fill in a questionaire regarding this as It may mean moving our club night to a Thursday . This questionaire will be handed out tonight at the Grove but you can also either download and print off a copy or reply by e mail to della.money@ntlworld.com Please take time to read and return this questionaire as it is important we know how the membership feels about these potential changes before any of them are made . In the 1st 3 months of the year , 18 club records have been achieved with Gregg Tejes and Laura Cundy earning their 1st ones for the club . Also Sophie Trickett,Jacob Carrington,Benjamin Palmer and Ruth Money got more records and Ethan Grace Riches broke a total of 8 records . Well done to you all Remember ,Club records need to be claimed within a month of swimming them by filling in the form also in the timings section .

26/03/13	Congratulations to Benz Tejes and Nicole Hamilton for winning the March Swimmer of the Month Awards for the Big and Small pool respectively . This award is given to the swimmers whom the coaches feel have shown the most improvement and have tried hardest over the previous 4 weeks . Well done to you both !!
26/03/13	We currently have 80 swimmers for the Newark Age Group Champs at Grantham on the 13th April but would like more so if you still have not entered and want to , e mail John at ponjalmer@aol.com . Dont forget , Grantham is an excellent 8 Lane Competition pool with full electronic scoreboard so it is a good opportunity for some of the non county swimmers to experience a proper swim meet for the 1st time .
26/03/13	The final 2013 Notts ASA County Age Group Championship Results complete with final BAGCAT points table are available by clicking here A very well done to all the younger swimmers especially Olivia Mathias and Katie Mellors who gained Midland Qualifying Times and to Laura Cundy who won the 12 and Under 100m Breaststroke . Also well done to all the relay teams especially the 12 and Under boys who won a silver medal . We would also like to thank Simone Mathias for once again organising Newarks entries and also team managing along with all the other helpers who gave up their time to support and look after the swimmers over the 6 days . Also , thank you to the parents for screaming and shouting encouragement to the swimmers for both the Age Group and Youth Champs.

25/03/13	A very exciting final day at the Counties ! Some great swims in the morning and some fantastic relay swims in the afternoon in which we made 5 finals ( one through a swim off !) and the boys 12 and Under Medley team just got pipped to the gold medal by Sherwood . 28/02/13	This weekend sees the 1st two days of the Notts ASA Age Group County Champs. We have 21 Age Group swimmers entering over the course of the whole Championships . If you have to withdraw from any event for any reason you must let Simone Mathias or one of the other team managers know before the warm up commences for that session as the club will be fined for swimmers who do not compete and fail to let the organisers know . 28/02/13	Last Saturday , several members joined 266 rotary clubs in 43 countries to take part in the Global Swimarathon for the 2013 End Polio Now campaign ! 33 swimmers swam 100m and the event raised £350 . 24/02/13	Last nights gala at Worksop saw us finish in 6th place but the swimmers battled hard , some doing lots of races . Only 2 wins both coming from Benjamin Palmer and 5 pb's overall .Well done to you all , you all did your best and did the club proud ! The results can be viewed by clicking here!
22/02/13	We have a gala at Worksop on Saturday which is the re-run of the cancelled Sports Centre League round back in January . Unfortunately we have a very sparse team but it should give some of the swimmers a good chance to get some pb's . The bus leaves the Grove at 5pm and the warm up is 6pm . Good Luck to the squad !
22/02/13	This Saturday sees the Swimathon for The Rotary Club to see if we can be involved in the most amount of people swimming 100 metres in the same hour . This starts at 12pm so please can everyone be at the pool for 11.45 .
18/02/13	The Committee has decided to bring the club records list bang up to date so there is a new version to view in the timings section . Now, all events from all ages have a record with the evidence for these taken from electronic records as far back as 2004 . This list has taken the Club Records Secretary a huge amount of time and effort so please be patient if there are a few errors on the list .
18/02/13	Retford Open Meet 2013 Every year , members of Newark Sc enter Open Meets . These are all day galas which are designed for getting better times and sometimes qualifying for County , Midland or national Championships . On the 16th June there is an Open Meet which we would like as many members as possible to enter especially if they are in the 8pm session on a Monday or Wednesday . This meet is hosted by Retford and is at Ponds Forge in Sheffield which is an Internationally recognised swimming venue . 09/02/13	Tonight the squad travelled to Retford for round 2 of the 2013 Sports Centre League of which we were promoted to the top division last year . The gala was a belter with some excellent swims from all teams and the Newark swimmers did themselves proud recording 15 pb's and 4 1st places . We finished in a credible 5th place overall on the night . Very encouraging to see the determination of our swimmers against the giants of Nottinghamshire Swimming . 15/01/13	It is with much sadness that we announce the death of Mr Alan Whitehead . Alan was a member of Newark Swimming Club for many years and his time with the club included coaching and standing on the committee . Alan was also our President in 1986 . Our thoughts go out to his family at this difficult time .

The fees for this year have been frozen but the initial joining fee must be paid by the 4th feb to enable entry into our Easter Age Group Champs . 12/01/13	The deadline for entries to this years Notts Asa County Champs is fast approaching . If you want to enter and have the qualifying times (see pb list - in green) you need to let Simone (Age Groups) or John (Youth ) know by Monday evening to give them chance to get them submitted . To enter counties or open meets you need to have Category 2 ASA membership which means an extra cost per year of around £18 . See Rachel on the desk to sort this out . If you have a PB to submit , it needs to be an official time from either a gala or a club time trial .
06/01/13	Please can all members be aware that they now need to arrange payment for 2013 over the next few Monday nights . This needs to be done by seeing Rachel on the desk and checking that all information held by the club is current and up to date . We ask that all members have rejoined by the end of January to enable us to determine how many spaces we have for new swimmers . The fees have been frozen for 2013 and Rachel has all this information . Please be patient as the mondays in January are busy and hectic for all of us at the club.
06/01/13	The first gala of 2013 took place last night and it was an exciting one . The gala was Stage 1 and involved the younger and less experienced members of the club . There were some fantastic swims with 6 wins and 13 pb's . Wins were from Joe and Angus McCallion , Jessica Reed , Ethan Grace Riches and the boys 10/11 relay team . Well done to you all . 31/12/12	We are pleased to announce that Will Ballard and Craig Geary have both passed their Level 1 Teachers course with flying colours . Well done to you both !!! This year the club has invested over £4000 in training to improve the standard of our coaching and teaching .

We now have 35 qualifying swimmers with 227 qualifying times between them !! 22/12/12	At the AGM earlier this month the membership fees for next year were discussed. We are pleased to announce that they will be the same as 2012 . This is due to great support this year with virtually all fees being paid on time . We would like to thank the membership for this . Also the Newark SC Constitution has been updated . 22/12/12	The Sunday session tomorrow will have 3 lanes taken up by the last chance time trials . If you are swimming in the last chance trials , remember to bring 2 towels and a t shirt to put on after the warm up .
16/12/12	Saturdays session 1 of the Last Chance Time Trials for potential county swimmers was a great success with 8 county times and 15 pb's achieved . If you didn't quite manage to get the time this week , there may be time next Sunday but priority goes to the swimmers who have already submitted entry forms .Talk to John at the pool tomorrow night .

09/12/12	Some great news about 2 of our coaches . Paul Trickett has passed his Level 2 Teachers exam and Pauline Gourley has completed her Level 3 Coaches course . Well done to you both ! Several of our coaches have passed courses this year and the club has made a substantial investment in training to improve the standards of teaching and coaching at the club .
02/12/12	Last nights gala at Mansfield saw us finish in 5th and last place . The Stage 1 Gala was aimed at the early development of gala swimmers and many had never swam in an inter club gala before so did very well . We also did not have enough swimmers to enter several of the races which did not help . However , the swimmers that attended did their very best and represented the club brilliantly earning 3 wins and an amazing 18 pb's . Well done to you all and we hope you all enjoyed the night as much as the spectators and helpers did . To view the results , click here .

Newark Swimming Club have been named 'Newark And Sherwood , Club of the year ' at the Sports Awards at Kelham Hall this evening along with one of our swimmers , Olivia Mathias being named Newark Junior Sportsperson of the year . Fantastic to receive these awards . Well done to Olivia and every swimmer , helper ,coach ,parent who has an involvement with the club !!!! More reason to celebrate on Friday night at the presentation evening !!!!!
26/11/12	The Venue for the 2012 Club Champs presentation Night and Disco is Highfields School Hall ,London Road , Balderton . This will take place this Friday the 30th November at 7pm . The presentation will take place at around 7.30pm and all members of the club are welcome . There is a bar and some snacks will be on sale . Remember , swimmers must attend to receive their Trophies and awards . All swimmers who have entered the club champs will receive an award regardless of their overall position . 24/11/12	News Just in . There were 2 club records broken in this years Club Champs . Ethan Grace Riches broke Simon Wathens 11 and under 200m Breaststroke record which has stood for 5 years and Benjamin Palmer took the Under 16 100m Free record from James Burkitt which had stood for 16 years ! Well done to you both . If you think you have broken a club record , visit the timings section for instructions on how to claim it . So far this year 37 new records have been set !!!
24/11/12	Some of our swimmers are competing at more Open meets this weekend to try to get more County and Midland Times . Good luck to all those at the City Of Leicester Meet and the Bramcote Open Meet . Swim fast !!!!!!
21/11/12	As previously mentioned ,we will be holding 2 last chance time trial sessions in December aimed at the swimmers who are close to County times in certain events . All members are free to have a go but we have to prioritise those swimmers whom are the closest ,ie have times in yellow on the pb list . The trials will be held on sat 15th December at 8am and the 23rd Decmber at 8am. They will be swam in 3 lanes and the normal sessions will continue in the other 3 lanes whilst the swims are going on . There is no charge for this and if you are interested please fill in the application form by clicking here , and either e mail it to John at ponjalmer@aol.com or bring it to the desk on mondays .
21/11/12	The results from the 2 Open Meets attended last weekend by Newark SC swimmers are now available to view in the Open Meets Section . Lots of pb's and more county times achieved . As per the pb list (which has now been updated ) , if the times are green then that is a County Qualifying Time . If they are yellow then the time is close and worth another go at the Last Chance Trials in December. There are more meets this coming weekend . Good luck to all competing !!!

17/11/12	For qualifying times for the 2013 Notts ASA County Champs ,click here Currently we have 28 swimmers with at least 1 qualifying time and 204 times achieved already across these 28 swimmers . Go to the pb list in the timings section and see if you have a qualifying time already (marked in green) or are close (marked in yellow). If you have a time in a yellow box it means we feel that you are still in with a chance of getting these times before the end of the year so should consider entering the last chance time trials . The Last Chance Time Trials are on the 15th and the 23rd December where swimmers who are close to County Times can have another go but spaces will be limited . Keep an eye on the website for more information
17/11/12	Some stats from the Newark Sc 2012 Club Champs . This year we had 115 swimmers entering a total of 685 swims . There were a huge 378 pb's achieved over the 6 sessions , a massive increase on last year . There were also over 20 new county times achieved . Well Done to you all !!!!!! Dont forget about the presentation evening on the 30th November at Highfields School where all swimmers who entered the Club Champs will receive an award to celebrate their participation . All members are welcome even if they did not swim at the champs . There will be a fun disco , bar and snacks available and is usually a fantastic evening . Please come and celebrate your childrens achievement !!!!
