Our Club

Newark Swimming Club is a warm, welcoming, and fully inclusive community, proudly accredited by Swim England and awarded SwimMark status in September 2024.

Our squad pathway — Skills, Development, Masters, Fitness, and County Performance — supports swimmers of every ability. Whether training once a week for fitness or aiming for county-level competition, our structure provides flexibility, progression, and the right level of challenge.

There is never any pressure to compete, but swimmers who want to race will find expert coaching, guidance, and plenty of opportunities.

What We Believe

Swimming should be enjoyable, rewarding, and social.

We focus on developing technique, stamina, and speed — but also confidence, friendships, and a lifelong love of the sport. Our aim is to help every swimmer achieve their potential and celebrate their personal bests.

We currently welcome around 200 members, from age 6 through to our Masters Squad (18+ with previous swimming experience).

History

1935

Newark Swimming Club is founded on the banks of the River Trent, before the town had a purpose-built swimming facility.

Sherwood Avenue

The club’s first home is the pool on Sherwood Avenue, where Newark SC begins as a diving club before evolving into a competitive swimming club.

Late 1960s

The opening of the Grove Leisure Centre in Balderton provides the club with its first indoor pool — a home it enjoyed for more than 40 years.

2016 – Today

Newark & Sherwood District Council opens the Newark Sports & Fitness Centre on Lord Hawkes Way. Newark SC relocates in April 2016 and continues to grow and support swimmers of all ages today.
