Competition Types

A clear guide to the five main competition types available to Newark SC swimmers.

Understanding the Competition Pathway

Newark Swimming Club offers a structured competition pathway so swimmers can progress at their own pace. There are five main competition types, starting with beginner-friendly Mini Meets and building towards County, Regional and National championships.

Mini Meets (Ages 7–11)

Perfect for young swimmers starting their racing journey.

Mini Meets are friendly, beginner-focused competitions designed for swimmers aged 7 to 11.

Races are mostly 25m, helping swimmers learn how races work, practise starts and turns, and gain confidence.

Club Championships

The ideal first step into competitive swimming.

Internal competitions open to all Newark SC swimmers. A relaxed, familiar setting to try racing and record official times.

Team Galas

Represent the club and race as part of a team.

Selected swimmers compete against other clubs in league or friendly galas, including relays and individual races.

Open Meets

Choose your own events and chase personal bests.

Hosted by other clubs, these meets allow swimmers to enter races that suit their goals and work towards qualifying times.

Championship Meets

County → Regional → National

Qualification-based competitions for swimmers who achieve set entry times. Major milestones in a swimmer’s journey.
