2026 Senior Captains

Ben T
Charlotte G

I am one of the Newark Swimming Club senior captains and I am a volunteer coach on a Thursday before my training session.
I have been swimming for Newark Swimming Club for 11 years and have loved every second. My favourite stroke is front crawl, however my best stroke is butterfly, particularly 50m butterfly.
My favourite aspects of the club are the amazing coaches who care about you both mentally and physically. It’s also rewarding to compete and watch the younger swimmers develop the same passion for the sport that I discovered years ago.
Some of my favourite club memories happen during training, where singing and dancing along to Adam’s playlists turns hard work into fun. I also love the energy of competitions, cheering everyone on as they give their all in the pool. Finally, our awards ceremonies are always a highlight of the year, dancing to disco classics with swimmers of all ages creates lasting memories for the entire club community.
Other than swimming, I am now a qualified lifeguard and swim teacher.  I also enjoy volunteering as a young leader with rainbows and cubs and am studying for my A Levels.

2026 Vice Captains

Oliver M

I am one of the Newark Swimming Club Vice Captains and I coach on a Thursday evening before my session as well as on a Wednesday to help our head coach Adam. I have been part of the Club since 2018 and I enjoy every single minute of it.  My favourite and best stroke is backstroke and I enjoy racing short distances eg. 50s and 100s as the adrenaline rushes through your body.
What I like most about the club is the passion and energy that goes into making the club run from all the volunteers and committee, who give up their time to help our future generation of swimmers. My favourite swimming club memory is all the galas we do together cheering everyone on with passion and hoping you get a new Pb or maybe even a county time.
Other than swimming, I enjoy sitting outside looking at a fishing rod and admiring the river and going out on my bike sending it on big jumps with my best mate Ben.

Abbey HY

I am the Newark Swimming Club Vice Captain and I coach on a Thursday evening before my session. I have been part of the Club for 9 years and it has been a key part of my life and I look forward to every day. My favourite stroke is breaststroke and it is also my best. I prefer the shorter races like 50m or 100m but I am happy to swim the longer distance ones too.
Some of my favourite aspects of the club include the people who make the club the place it is, such as the amazing coaches, all swimmers and most importantly my friends. I love competing at galas and open meets especially those at Ponds Forge, Harvey Hadden, or any other big venues. However, some of my favourite memories are from training when Adam puts music on, or when you complete a difficult set, it feels as though you have accomplished something great. In my free time I like hanging out with my friends, and I love shopping.

Ruby W

Hi, my name is Ruby and I am one of the Senior Vice Captains at Newark Swimming Club. I began swimming at Newark when I was six years old, and the club has since become a huge part of my life. I love being part of the Newark Swimming Club family, where we support and encourage one another, work hard in training whilst having some fun! I particularly like the strong team spirit we have at competitions.

I enjoy swimming all four strokes, with my favourite events being the longer distance races. One of the best aspects of the club is how supportive the coaching team is, especially Adam, who continually guides, helps, and encourages everyone to be the best swimmer they can be.

On Thursday evenings before I swim I also coach two lanes of younger swimmers, helping them to develop their skills and progress on their swimming journey. One of my proudest swimming moments was achieving my County qualifying time after working towards it for over a year and seeing how happy Adam was for me.

2026 Junior Captains

James F

I am the Junior Captain at Newark Swimming Club.

Hello, I’m James, Newark Swimming Club’s Junior Club Captain. I have been a member of the club for around two years. My favourite race is the 50m freestyle and freestyle is definitely my favourite stroke!

It’s hard to pick just one favourite thing about the club, because I have two. Firstly, the friends I have made, the club is like a family community. And secondly, our head coach Adam is just brilliant.

My favourite memory of swimming was from a training session one evening. During our pre-training briefing, when no one was in the pool at all, I went to put my water bottle next to the diving block but lost my balance and fell into the water. Everyone looked and we all started laughing!

Soon after joining I did my first gala, I was so scared that I didn’t get in the pool! But now I am competing at the County Championships and in lots of finals!! When Adam joined he introduced mini-meets which are brilliant ways to get used to competing without it being scary!

Other than swimming, I love playing football. I play for the Tigers and for my school team. I love how swimming makes me better for football and vice versa!

Ruby N

Hi! I’m Ruby and I have been at Newark Swimming Club for nearly a year.
I’ve been swimming since I was little and when I was 3, I swam my first full 25 meters.

I’m really proud to be the Junior Team Captain this year. It means a lot to me because I love helping people, cheering everyone on, and making sure our team feels confident and supported.  Our club is super friendly, and when we’re at competitions, we make lots of noise for each other. It’s one of my favourite things about being part of the team.

My absolute favourite stroke is Butterfly, especially the 50 metres. I get really excited when I’m racing for the club. Competitions are the best — both individual races and team galas — and I always try my hardest to do well.

Our coach Adam gives us lots of advice and makes lots of fun, but challenging sets to help us get better.

When I’m not swimming, I do ballet and tap dancing, which helps me stay flexible and strong. I like being busy and learning new skills.

I want to encourage more people to swim because it’s fun, it keeps you fit, and you make loads of friends.
Swimming has given me so much confidence, and I hope I can help others feel the same.

 Swim fast, smile lots!
