Our Club

We are a friendly, all inclusive swimming club accredited to Swim England and have gained SwimMark status in September 2024.

Our Squad System (Skills, Development, Masters, Fitness and County Performance) is designed to be inclusive to all members and to support in achieving their goals. It allows flexibility in the number of sessions and will help swimmers increase their fitness and improve their skills. There is no expectation or pressure for swimmers to compete, but plenty of opportunities and support will be provided for swimmers that are interested in doing so.

Fundamentally we believe it is important for all our members to enjoy their training and make new friends along the way. We aim to develop swimming skills, stamina, and speed of all our members. Our goal is for all our swimmers to achieve the best they can, and to improve on their ‘personal best’ times.

Currently we have around 180 members aged between 6 years though to Masters Squad for anyone aged over 21 with previous swimming ability. Our club night for all swimmers is a Thursday with additional sessions on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesday at Newark Sports & Fitness Centre, Lord Hawkes Way, Newark, NG24 4FH and by invitation only at NK in North Hykeham each Friday evening for County Performance members.

History

Newark Swimming Club was established in 1935 on the banks of the river Trent prior to there being a purpose-built facility in the town.

The first purpose built pool was constructed on Sherwood Avenue in the town centre. This became the home for Newark Swimming Club which in its early years was primarily a diving club, but later on the club evolved into a competitive swimming club.  In the late 1960’s the Grove Leisure Centre in Balderton was built and Club move to its first indoor facility where it remained for over 40 years.

A new leisure centre was constructed on Lord Hawks Way, off Bowbridge Road in Newark in 2016 by Newark & Sherwood District Council to replace the Grove Leisure Centre and Newark Swimming Club relocated to the Newark Sports & Fitness Centre in April 2016.
