Adam McIntyre - Head Coach

I joined Newark Swimming Club as Head Coach in May 2023. Previous to that I've been a competitive swimmer for the best part of 20 years and have been a professional coach for 7 of those.

In my coaching career I’ve had a number of notable successes including Lincolnshire Junior League Champions, multiple county and regional medallists and Champions, multiple national qualifiers and finalists and 2 Commonwealth games trialists. One of which went on to medal in the Youth Commonwealth Games.

I’m always keen to create a comfortable, yet challenging training environment where swimmers are encouraged to work hard, supported to improve and allowed to be themselves.

What is your favourite stroke/race/distance?

Back in my competitive days I enjoyed racing the 100/200 Fly and the 200/400 IM!

What do you enjoy most about coaching at NSC?

I'm fortunate to have a really enthusiastic group of swimmers who are keen to learn and enjoy working hard to improve. There's also a dedicated team of fantastic volunteers to help support the swimmers. It all comes together to create an excellent training environment!

What is your favourite swimming related memory?

As a swimmer - it would have to be getting my first regional time in the 50 Fly at Grantham in 2009!

As a coach - at my old club we had great regionals a few years back where 2 swimmers became regional champions and our relay team qualified for nationals all in the space of half an hour!

Other than swimming what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Away from the pool I enjoy relaxing in my garden by my pond. Still near water, but with a bit of peace and quiet!

Kate Fahey - Level 2 Coach

I joined the team in November 2022 as a poolside helper for the club but now act as Chair of the club, parent liaison and coach. I am a primary school teacher and a mother of three which is a busy life but I have really enjoyed being involved at the club and joining the committee. I completed my Level 1 coaching qualification in July 2023 and undertook my Level 2 coaching qualification in the spring 2024.

In addition to this I also joined the club as a swimmer in March 2024 starting in the intro to masters before progressing to the masters group on a Thursday night. I am entering my first competition this year (2025) and look forward to seeing my front crawl and breaststroke PB's improve over time.

I have had the privilege of being part of the team as we have developed under the guidance of our head coach, Adam and on reflection this has been nothing short of outstanding. 2025 will be an exciting year for NSC and I am always available for a chat or advice should our families require any support.

Kathryn Tregellas - Level 2 Coach

I am a volunteer Level 2 Coach, a Masters swimmer and the Volunteer Co-ordinator for the club.

I started swimming competitively when I was seven years old. It has given me a lifelong skill. Swimming is a sport that enabled me to have an extraordinary and fantastic set of friends, totally different from school. We had a strong team spirit, and most importantly, we had loads of fun.

I joined Newark Swimming club three years ago and found it to be such a friendly, inclusive and positive club, with some fantastic people involved in it. I quickly got my stamina back and, whilst there was no pressure to compete, I decided to start competing in Masters Galas (swimming for over 18-year-olds). I even ended up winning a few medals when I competed in March 2024!

Both my children now swim at the club, and they love swimming too.

In my spare time, I enjoy making furniture out of wood, fixing up my old house and maintaining woodland. It all goes some way to keeping me fit!
